I tend to have mine concentrate on fighters, because they usually don't last long against capital ships. Setting the auto-targeting for your wingman is also important.I like to have some powerful ones set to locked targets only so I can tell them what to shoot at, and some others set to free-firing at fighters. Setting the auto-targeting for the turret weapons is also pretty important.Be sure you have the right turret weapons mounted, and mounted on the right spots on the ship.I think just about everyone agrees that defenses (shields, armor, and deflector) are top priority for upgrading. There's a lot of preparation and tactics involved, and not always obvious to the relative beginner. What am I missing? Is there some technique other than spamming broadsides while trying to square up your opponents? a price not likely to be matched by any station. That's because a Trader will offer a very nice price for some of my cargo. I'll sometimes check out a distress signal to see if there's a Trader in there (which I can usually tell from enough distance to not get involved if there's not). But the game rewards are usually minimal. As a role-playing thing, yeah, the white knight charges in and saves the day. Most of the time, there's nothing there for you (the gamer). Nothing wrong with avoiding distress signals. I can't count how many distress signals I've avoided because fighting is so tedious.
